佐々木が予備校生に贈った名言たち

新将命さんの『伝説の外資トップが説く リーダーの教科書
《ネバー、ネバー、ネバー、ネバー、ギブアップ》
が引用されているのを、懐かしく読んだ。
佐々木は大学を卒業後、大学受験予備校に就職し、主に教材やパンフレットの製作を担当していた。
英語の教材の欄外には、受験生を励ますための英語の名言をよく載せていたのだが、中でもチャーチルの
Never, never, never, never give up.
絶対に、絶対に、絶対に、絶対に、あきらめてはならない。
は佐々木のお気に入りで、テキストの表紙をめくった最初にこの言葉が目に飛び込むようにしておいたものだった。
3回目の「絶対に」まではサラリと読めるのだが、4回目の「絶対に」で、なぜか目の奥から熱いものがこみ上げる。
いまだにそうだ。
